Neighbours Can Help website

Set up by the Sheffield social enterprise Neighbours Can Help, you can connect online with people who want to give help or need help on your street and in your local area. www.neighbourscanhelp.org.uk

Community Friends

NHS Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group’s ‘Community Friends‘ encourages local people to help elderly neighbours, especially during winter.

Being a ‘Community Friend’ ranges from checking in on older neighbours to check they are warm and well, to collecting prescriptions or taking older neighbours to the GP for any appointments. It could also involve helping with food shopping, and clearing snow from doors or paths or gritting side roads and paths if necessary.

Contact the Elderly

Contact the Elderly is the only national charity solely dedicated to tackling loneliness and isolation among older people.

They offer a range of activities and support for older people who are lonely, and have four groups based in Sheffield.

Crackers and Company

Crackers and Company is a community project based in South Anston that runs a Christmas dinner on Christmas Day for people who are lonely and isolated and would otherwise spend the day alone.

The group is run completely by volunteers who work all year round fundraising and sourcing food and gifts for on the day.

You can follow the group on Twitter by following @crackerscompany

Homeless Christmas Shoebox Appeal

Set up in 2013, the Homeless Christmas Shoebox Appeal originally collected donations for homeless people who were spending Christmas on their own. Due to the overwhelming success of the campaign and the generosity of local people, donations are now made to isolated older people.
