Volunteering

Here you can find out more about the volunteer opportunities we have available.

Bus Buddy

Are you confident using public transport and passionate about helping to reduce people’s feeling of isolation? If so, we would love you to become a Bus Buddy.

You would be supporting someone who lives near you who is a little nervous of travelling on their own. You would get on a bus with them, have a chat, and help them get off at the right stop. This could make all the difference to one of your neighbours!

This opportunity is based in Firth Park, Longley, or Southey Green and is flexible with no long term commitment.

To start volunteering please contact the team at Better Journeys on betterjourneys@pwlcprojects.com or 0114 553 9555.

Map Maker

Our Better Journeys Project are making a map of the Firth Park Ward to help older people plan journeys. The map will show benches and resting places, bus stops and whether they have seats and are sheltered, and public toilet facilities. Who better to help create this map, than people who live in the area!

The role will involve walking around the area and marking what you find on a map provided by the team at Better Journeys. Everybody’s work will be put together until all the roads in the ward are covered! You can choose to do as much or as little walking as you like, going as fast or slowly as you like, and you can choose what days to do it on, depending on the weather!

This opportunity is based in Firth Park, Longley, or Southey Green and is flexible with no long term commitment.
